Overview of Projects
The New Hospitals for the South West projects will see an investment of over £450 million and transform health care provision in the South West of Northern Ireland.

These projects are leading the Developing Better Services health infrastructure development programme that is being delivered throughout Northern Ireland. The projects will result in two new modern, purpose-built hospitals as well as other health care facilities. These new facilities will be part of a network of hospital care across Northern Ireland and will be integrated with primary, community and mental health services.

Vision and Innovation
The new hospitals are part of the ‘Developing Better Services’ model for the reform and modernisation of hospital services across Northern Ireland. This new model will re-design the way hospitals work, and offer patients rapid diagnostics and treatment.

In the future, there will be more integration among health professionals from different areas, for example GPs and consultants will work more closely, as will hospital staff and home care teams. Staff will be trained in new ways of working and will have access to the latest medical technologies.

The New Hospitals project team is also working to provide new, attractive and well-designed buildings that meet the needs of both staff, patients and visitors.
